Studio Time
April 30, 2005 on 8:27 am | In All Drawings, Interiors, London, UK | No CommentsWhilst researching for some workshops this week I came across this quote from Picasso on Matisse. It reinforces in me the notion that drawing is one of the most honest forms of communication and its the ability it has to capture a moment that keeps me intrigued.
“Matisse makes a drawing, then he makes a copy of it. He recopies it five times, ten times, always clarifying the line. He’s convinced that the last, the most stripped down, is the best, the purest, the definitive one; and in fact, most of the time, it was the first. In drawing, nothing is better than the first attempt.” Pablo Picasso.
Spanish I’s
April 29, 2005 on 8:51 am | In All Drawings, London, People, UK | No CommentsSpent the day giving assessments to the 3rd & 4th years at the Art Academy. Some really good work coming through as the organisation grows and changes, it looks as though the summer show 5th - 10th July will be well worth a visit.
(Started the day at 7.30am finished at 10.30pm hence another bus drawing. Two Spanish guys on the bus going clubbing.)
My Scanner Broke
April 28, 2005 on 8:53 am | In All Drawings, Exteriors, London, UK | No CommentsAs you may notice the Daily Drawing Diary looks slightly different today. I’ve added a little button to the side where if people so desire they can help support the running of this diary with cash.
I’ve started this because my scanner broke today and I realise that if I’m to keep going, which I intend to do and am really enjoying doing, it’s going to become a little more difficult to get the images onto the Diary without this scanner. Ideally I need one that can slip into my laptop case and it can travel with me everywhere and therefore I can get a drawing up everyday.
Also just to let you know considering I only started this 4 weeks ago and we’re up to 200 visits a day. I’m intrigued to know who you all are.
I was thinking about whether to generate some income through a signed limited edition of each drawing or maybe an online auction once a month of an original or two. I’m not convinced by this as it may start to look like an online commercial gallery which would change the dynamic of what this is turning out to be. Let me know what you think.
Ps This is a drawing from the traffic island in the middle of Ludgate Circus, London. Pollution was bad.
Power(book) To The People
April 27, 2005 on 8:54 am | In All Drawings, Life Stills, UK | No CommentsBeing a very tired person today (met with the Dean of Southwark cathedral’s wife early, did the first of six creativity lunches at the BBC followed by reading 8 proposals for the Art Academy graduate show) all I could conjure up the energy to draw is my computer.
I did watch Antz though and slightly concerned about my feelings towards Princess Bala.
What’s Your Best Biscuit?
April 26, 2005 on 8:55 am | In All Drawings | No CommentsHave you ever thought about sharing a packet of biscuits on the bus? My theory is that if you do you may well bring about world peace. I’ve tried it and it does seem to give a people a nice smile.
Now ask yourself what’s your best biscuit?
This is the No 91 bus traditionally they prefer the Hob Nob.
I’d have to say I’m partial to the Bourbon Cream.

April 22, 2005 on 9:01 am | In All Drawings, Buildings, Exteriors, London, UK | No CommentsWith my studio being just behind the Tate Modern sometimes I walk across the Thames from St Pauls to the Art Academy. This drawing is of the view I walk, along Millennium Bridge & past the Tate.
Eastern Icon
April 21, 2005 on 9:02 am | In All Drawings, UK | No CommentsOn a research visit to Southwark Cathedral to find Christ Icons for Doxology I came across this really beautiful Eastern Icon. My drawing does no justice to it but you get the flavour.
