A Red Rob To A Bull

August 30, 2005 on 9:58 am | In All Drawings, Devon, Landscapes, UK | No Comments

Finding myself as a wimp amongst the brave, I take on the task of drawing a dozen or so Bullocks whilst walking in the fields to conquer my (I think quite rational) fear. I’ve been head butted by a cow whilst walking the streets of Varanasi in India so know some of the pain that can occur. All is going well until Theo says don’t look into their eyes, quite hard whilst drawing, I also realise I’m also wearing the brightest of red T-shirts. It was a good job that the alpha male was protected by the girlfriend and the fifteen year old brother. I always say put the woman and children in danger first in order to protect yourself!

Unseen seen

Gilles Peterson’s Monday night set. Both drawings done in the normal style with no eye contact with the paper, but the second was with eyes completely shut.

Bill Drummond gave a performance / talk on “How to be an artist” if you ever hear that he’s doing it near you then try and go. It culminated in him selling a 1/20000 piece of a Richard Long photograph for $1. For more info go to www.penkiln-burn.com

Early For Estelle

Showed my age a little today as I watched 2/3 of a set by Estelle without knowing who she was and walked away before the only song that I knew. It’s an interesting experiment into the theory of experience over association, as it was she was okay but when I found out that I’d heard of her I started to think more highly of the experience…. The power of association kicking in to heighten the experience.

What’s Going On

Sorry that the next 6 drawings are being posted retrospectively, I’ve spent the weekend at Greenbelt Festival where they asked me to show the Doxology Drawings as a film on their big screen. They looked good and were well received.

Had an interesting time and ended up camping with the 39 Germans from Kubik, The Tall Skinny One, Shannon, Mark & his family and it was lovely to catch up with our friends Maggie and Chris. They’ve been traveling with their 4 girls (all 3 or under) for the past 6 months and are now heading back to the hood that is Barnsbury.

This drawing was done late night at an event entitled “What’s Going On”. It was pretty cool but I prefer to spend my evenings with a vile and my mouth gaffer tapped.

Travel Lite

Packing in our household is always an interesting challenge. Our understanding of space filing seems to difer. When you actually enter in to a conversation as to whether we should take a hoover on a camping trip you know that the car is going to be full.

Blackfriars Bridge

With less than three weeks to go until I leave for the States with Doxology, I’m finding that my time is becoming a little frantic. 7.30am meetings is not quite what I’m used to but London is a beautiful place that early in the morning.

Full Nelson

August 23, 2005 on 10:05 am | In All Drawings, Landscapes, London, UK | No Comments

At late notice I’ve been asked to put together a short film on Doxology for Greenbelt Arts Festival which will be shown on the big screen. Spent the day making a journey back to all the churches, cathedrals and the one library taking photographs. Realised that I hadn’t drawn Nelson so thought it appropriate to draw the Monument.

Frigid Air

When you live in London you forget that going shopping can actually be easy. We live with nothiing in the fridge because it’s a challenge to go to the shops, so when the fridge is full it’s a pleasure.
