Council Complaint

We live under the loving arms of Islington Council. Although their green policies are quite good when it comes to parking and the swarms of traffic wardens it’s a whole different matter. Today I made the glamorous annual trip to the council office to get the parking permit for Maggie. Whilst sat there for the hour and a half it took for them to see me I watched this man make a complaint. He had driven to the office to pay for his parking permit and paid for an hour’s worth of parking thinking that this would be enough to get him his sacred piece of paper. After waiting the hour the council workers hadn’t seen him so off he went to put some more money into the machine. Waiting another half hour they gave him his permit and off he went thinking that all was well with the world. He returned to his car to find that he had been given a parking ticket at the cost of £50 because he had fed the meter. Although he had the right to be there for 2 hours he wasn’t allowed to buy two tickets according to the Traffic Wardens. There was nearly an uprising amongst the people of Islington and the prophetic Morcheeba could have been right with The Great London Traffic Warden Massacre.

Covent Garden is full of street performers. Some of them are really excellent, others seem to fall on deaf ears. This drawing points to a more interesting performance than it actually was.

In the 1980’s it’s alleged that Charles & Maurice Saatchi let some of their clients believe they had huge amounts of work by hiring a whole office full of staff when they came around for a meeting.
It seems the practise still occurs as today as I was an extra in an office. This is what it looks like when I work in an agency, notice the important FT on the desk and the fact that there are bars and a lock on the windows.

The Big Draw starts this week and they have a couple of good websites you can go along to. Their intention is to get everyone drawing so go along to their events listing to see whats happening in your area (unfortunately mainly UK based at the moment.) The campaign for drawing is at www.drawingpower.org.uk and it has some links for online drawing for kids etc. The Learning Curve on Radio 4 also did a nice little piece on Drawing which you can listen to online.
The Collection of stories Sept. 1 - 13
September 24, 2006 on 3:20 am | In All Drawings | 1 CommentI’ve updated the September stories as far as I’m going to post on the blog. I think it has an okay ending if you only get to read the blog and not the compendium (where all 30 sections of the story will be published).
To make your reading experience easy, I’m going to include the not yet fully edited parts (1-13) of the September story.
I hope you have enjoyed this story more than my mother, who liked the first bit but not the second half. But everyone has their taste.

A drum and base evening at 2001 on Brick Lane.
Through the constant build and collapse of the music the noises let through the silence. It is the silence you can hear in a wood, despite the chatter of birds and leaves and the tree growth……… Jonathan Baggaley (On the wall of the Drum and Base club where the picture was drawn)
