A Redraw of a good old fashioned seen pencil drawing. One of my resolutions is to try and make more portraits this year. I’m interested in what happens with how the diary is going to be shaped and as the new year starts I’m thinking about what areas I’d like to work more in. I’m even thinking of asking for requests, so if you have any then let me know.

glad you plan to do more portraits. i find faces fascinating, and your conscious reflex approach essentializes them in such intriguing ways, rob!
i find half-faces especially magnetic. there are things we see in half-faces that are not always so noticeable in the whole.
and i recall mugging with half-face humor a long time back. i had grown a beard and decided to shave it off. but i only did one side first, then stood in front of a mirror, and took a photo of myself and my reflection from the other side. i showed it to friends and it tweaked their brains. they knew something was off, but what?!
and just this last year, i got a large poster of Gollum, and somehow realized that each half-face seemed different. so i covered up one half and there was Smeagol, slight smile and no krinkles around his eye. the flip side was Gollum, slightly malicious downturn at the mouth, and lines around the eye. the artists surely knew how to tweak us with their visual cues!
anyway, looking forward to 2007 as a year when we face our futures!
