Pentecost At Westminster Abbey

May 15, 2005 on 6:01 am | In All Drawings, Doxology, Interiors, London, UK | No Comments

With today being Pentecost and as always intrigued by the reasons why artist’s do what they do I thought I’d share with you a couple of quotes rationalising artist’s talents.

“I myself do nothing. The Holy Spirit accomplishes all through me”. William Blake.

“The music of this opera ( Madame Butterfly) was dictated to me by God; I was merely instrumental in putting it on paper and communicating it to the public.” Giacomo Puccini

Read about Pentecost Grid Blogging late Saturday night and gave myself the challenge of finding an image within a church of the Pentecost. Left the house this morning with no idea where to go and ended up at Westminster Abbey 20 minutes before the service.

My intentions were to find an image, plonk myself down and draw during the service. However the somewhat overbearing stewards had other ideas and I end up sitting on the back row behind the cathedral choir.(Memories of my childhood flow back) With all preconceived ideas of what I was to draw out the window I found myself just being and the results are the two drawings below.

Upon taking communion I see the last relief on the high altar a small depiction of the Pentecost, the results are above which was drawn as the fat lady was singing and the organist played.
