London Drawings: New Rob Pepper Exhibit at Liberty

Two Red Telephone BoxesA collection of Rob Pepper’s artworks, based on a series of his daily drawings of London over the past 12 months, will go on display at Liberty from 11 June to 22 July.

The exhibition features spectacular large-scale paintings and a collection of limited-edition lithographs, gold-sealed with his “Pardo Per Parum Calamus” (“The Loser With The Little Pen”) coat of arms.

Installation ShotThe cornerstone of much of Pepper’s work is the technique that he has termed “Conscious Reflex Drawing”, which involves not looking at the paper or his working hand, in an effort to create images that are truly reflective of a given moment, without the revision of the critical eye.

‘The process liberates the artwork from the visual judgements and constant editing that accompany traditional ‘seen’ drawings,’ he says.

4 FloorsThe artist has had recent solo exhibitions in London, Houston and Melbourne, and his work is held in private and public-sector collections worldwide. His forthcoming solo exhibition, The State of Texas, will tour Austin, Dallas and Houston later in the year.
