Things To Know

1. The Daily Drawing Diary began on 2nd April 2005 with the image of Rooftops Across Barnsbury
Any drawings before then have been retrospectively added.
2. Alongside drawing Rob makes large scale paintings often using the initial images from the Diary.

3. Until Dormant Leaf (October 4th 2006) Rob used a technique he called Conscious Reflex Drawing to draw. This involves not looking at his hand as he makes the image. He continues to use the technique but not religiously.
4. Rob believes that drawing can be used as a form of meditation. That drawing captures something that goes beyond words and that it is a good way to spend time when waiting for other people.
5. Rob lives in the top of a blue house in North London.
6. Rob collaborates with his partner Aimie Littler on the conceptual development of various projects including the Compendiums. These are a series of books based around the drawing diary and to date there have been 14 of them. 12 in the 2006 Compendium Set, The Artist’s Cut (the best of 2006 drawings) & The Texas Compendium.
7. Most drawings are pen and ink and until 2008 are 14cm x 21cm. The majority of 2008 drawings have been double this size.
8. Rob has only missed one day in nearly three years and that was 10 days after he started on the 12th April 2005.
9. As a child born in the late 70’s Rob was destined to become a BMX champion.
10. The drawings remain within the artist’s collection but some are released specifically for exhibitions. The next being in May 2008 at SW1 Gallery, London.
11. In the past 12 months Rob has had 6 solo exhibitions based on drawings from the Daily Drawing Diary in London and the USA.
12. On the 3rd Wednesday of the month Rob hosts a drawing salon called “The Drawing Room” in Islington North London. It’s open to all levels but is limited to 20 places. It costs £5 and it’s important to book. Email Rob for more info.
